Just spent a whole lot of the last couple of days volunteering at the Arboretum. I love spending time there. Especially, you know, when you get to smell wisteria all day. And look at these.
Yay tulips! Happy Easter, y'all. (chocolate here I come)
Oh my GOSH. How are you bloggy-blog? I've missed you. I'm having some rare, stellar moment at work when things aren't piled upon my desk, and though it makes me suspicious, I just had to take the opportunity to say hi.
I wish I had more interesting things to share. Mostly I just mine about looking for new music. Here's the latest song (and band) that's on repeat in the ol' noggin.
It's a band called Local Natives and the song is "Airplanes." I might go see 'em when they come through town in April.
Hrm, what else. Crocheting and knitting as usual. I've completed two of my three scheduled spring baby blankets (for my three spring babies). Here's the first who came along, and his accompanying blanket. His name is Grant and he's my nephew!
Blanket suits him I think. Isn't he handsome? In a cute infant sorta way? Baby number two may come along today or tomorrow - mom is at the hospital as I type! Wish I could be there. And the last will be along in about a month. Woo!
I've got other projects completed and in-the-works, but you know me and the photo editing. I'm not even going to talk about the state of my DVR. But at this stage in life, I'm not one to consider a busy life anything but a blessing. Ya know?
Gave up sweets for Lent again. Always a good idea, though I had a few moments of weakness which I may or may not have succumb to. But now that I get to indulge guilt-free come Sunday, I think I need to make a cobbler with that last bag of peaches in the freezer. Also went and saw a lady about a Hoosier yesterday (you remember me and that obsession, right?). It's a craigslist find, and I'm still debating the decision. I will say that it would be much easier if I had a man and a truck at my disposal. But then again, wouldn't everything?
First haircut of spring + first spring break in 8 years (well deserved, too) + pretty pretty outside spring + new She & Him streaming on NPR = lil' bit o happy.
For a few days there we thought it was something serious but then turns out it wasn't or rather it was but it wasn't progressing as quick as we thought so really he's okay (all things considered) but I got a little taste of how hard it's going to be and for now he's curled in a ball taking a nap on the couch so I'm going to go join him.
I walked over to Swiss Avenue, to photograph it in all its old, posh, snow-covered loveliness.
Granted, this amount of snow is pretty unheard of in this part of Texas. But I don't get quite so crazy about it after those five years in New York. I am, however, super excited for the kids. I grew up around here, so I know. This is pretty freakin' awesome.
Working at a school means snow days come quickly. I got the alert at 6 am. I'd gone to bed convinced there'd be no issues. I hadn't even bothered to bring home the numbers of the four subs I had coming in today. So when I got that call, there was quite a bit of confusion.
It is a bit hard to believe that it's still coming down. They cancelled the volunteer appreciation dinner at the Arboretum tonight, which is a heart breaker. I was so excited about going. But hot cocoa, Parks & Rec, The Office, and 30 Rock sound pretty nice too.
When all you do these days is sit at your desk and work work work, if you're me, you take the opportunity to listen to lots of music. I'm a big fan of music while I work. That's sorta how I discovered the Baltimore band Beach House. Their new album Teen Dream is ever so good. It was just released this past Tuesday.
Not really a video here, just a weird picture of the two Beach House kids, but give it a listen.
In other news, winter's coming back around for an encore. I'm not really a fan, but one must get a proper dose so you have things to think about when it's 100 degrees during those steamy Texas summers.
Also of note, I saw August: Osage County this past weekend at the Winspear (that's it above) and it was amazing. The production seems to be touring about, so if they come to your town, try and catch it. And speaking of the Winspear, here are a couple more pictures of the Dallas Arts District that I took this past fall at the open house celebration for the Winspear and the Wyly. Yes, Dallas has Arts!
I have yet to see the crazy chandelier come out of the ceiling, despite visiting twice. Someday!
There are so many great plays and musicals coming through town that it's hard to pick out what your budget will allow. My friend and I very much want to see Wicked and Spring Awakening, which are both coming through this year. It's not New York, but I'm so glad I get to see cool stuff every now and again. Having some fancy-schmancy venues helps.
